2022 Pitt Student Ambassador Program: East Asia

Hosted by: University Center of International Studies (UCIS), Residence Life, and the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development

Student Ambassadors

Are you interested in discovering new cultures, making life-long friends, and becoming a global student leader? Then the Pitt to You Ambassador program is for you! The Pitt to You program welcomes and provides intercultural experiences with incoming international first-year students in East Asia. We are looking for 10-15 ambassadors to participate in leadership training and community building that will combine an opportunity for international travel, developing leadership skills, and academic credit in a year-long program starting in Spring 2022. Academic and cultural training will potentially be combined with travel to East Asia in July 2022. This program will also offer a virtual track to students who do not wish to travel. Roundtrip airfare and accommodations for travel will be covered by the program.

Pitt to You Ambassador Requirements and Expectations

The Pitt to You program is designed to develop intercultural leadership skills through a year-long program that will focus on cultural awareness, communications, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and best practices for building international teams. The program includes a cultural development program in spring 2022, travel or virtual engagement in summer 2022, and a one-credit global leadership seminar in fall 2022. Two tracks will be offered—a hybrid track that includes in-person and virtual programming and an entirely virtual track.

Ambassador Requirements:

  1. Full-time undergraduate sophomore or junior
  2. A minimum of 24 academic credits completed on a Pitt campus
  3. A 2.75 cumulative GPA or 2.5 for Engineering students
  4. A clear disciplinary record

  1. Cross-cultural development training program—all participants will be required to enroll in the spring 2022 Intercultural Competency Course and attend summer training sessions that will prepare ambassadors for summer 2022 programming activities.
  2. Before meeting incoming international students from East Asia, ambassadors will be required to participate in a two-day preparatory seminar.
  3. Participate in the Pitt to You workshop with incoming international students from East Asia in July 2022.
  4. In Fall 2022, enroll in one-credit Global Leadership Course class and complete all class requirements satisfactorily.
