Summer Program

Interact with the Pitt to You Ambassadors months before you get to meet other Pitt students! The Pitt to You summer program is a mix of formal presentations on topics such as housing and class types, informal videos on subjects like favorite places around campus, and ways to socially engage and ask questions of these upper-class students. In addition to the Pitt to You Ambassadors helping you learn about Pitt and life in the United States, these students would also love to learn about your life at home - from the music you enjoy to your favorite hobbies to the food you will miss most! This program will be run through the Teams software that is commonly used at Pitt.

Part of the Summer Program is a workshop that will be presented by different Pitt departments and Pitt to You ambassadors with vital information to help you prepare for your studies at the university. Learn more at SUMMER WORKSHOP.

Fall Global Leadership Course

The Global Leadership course is a 1 credit class designed to help students gain skills vital to their success at Pitt. This course will focus on academic skills and American classroom resources, community engagement, and global leadership skills to use at the university, in your community, and in your future employment roles. The class is open to all first year international students and the Pitt 2 You Ambassadors. The schedule of these courses will be available in the summer.

If first year international students are unable to enroll in this course, we encourage you to enroll in a Freshman Seminar taught by a UCIS staff member. The schedule of these courses will be available in the summer.

Spring Intercultural Competency Course

We live in an interconnected and diverse world, whether we choose to intentionally seek opportunities to engage across different cultures or not. Domestically and internationally, we come across people with different ethnic, racial, linguistic, socioeconomic backgrounds, and need to be able to build effective, culturally appropriate and authentic personal and professional relationships. Intercultural competencies are consistently ranked among the most sought-after skills in professional settings.

Intercultural Competence: Building Skills to Navigate Global and Diverse World is a 1 credit course with the purpose to introduce students to the foundational concepts of intercultural development and provide opportunities to build and practice intercultural skills in a variety of settings. By the end of the course students will develop deeper cultural self-awareness, understanding of cultural frameworks and ability to articulate the importance of intercultural competence.

Important Additional Opportunities

Global Ties Mentorship

We would love to be your friends! You can ask or chat with us about anything like what's your favorite class? What should I bring to Pittsburgh? How's campus life? and many more! We will reach out to you to sign up for the mentoring program during the summer and assign you a mentor. Also, we will offer 15-20 virtual summer sessions in June and July where you can meet other incoming and current international students, and domestic students who are in similar majors, are from your regions, or have similar interests and hobbies. We are excited to meet you all soon!

Living Learning Communities

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are specialized living environments that connect students inside- and outside-the-classroom experiences. Each LLC is unique, but all are centered on a distinctive theme or academic interest area. Students who choose to live in an LLC have a direct connection to their classroom experience, access to intentional events and programs, and dedicated staff members who work to make the community a success.

There are 20 LLCs at Pitt, including the Global Village which will help you complete activities toward the Global Distinction at Pitt. Learn more about the Living Learning Communities here.

Global Distinction

The Global Distinction is a new Pitt credential that supports your growth in learning more about the world inside and outside the classroom. By completing course work across disciplines and participating in global activities and experiences at home or abroad, you can earn official recognition for your work. The credential also brings milestone rewards and, upon completion, a personal Global Distinction URL for use on your résumé and networking sites. The Global Distinction is a great way to demonstrate your cross-cultural exposure and awareness to potential employers.

Participants in the Pitt to You program will earn credits towards the Global Distinction. Learn more about the Global Distinction here.
